Will of Habakkuk Russell - 1754
In the Name of God Amen, I Habakkuk Russell of Carteret County and Province of North Carolina plantor being sick and weak in body, but of bound and perfect sense and memory. Thanks be ascribed to God for the same and calling to mind the the mortality of my body. Knowing that it is appointed for man once to die do make this my last will and testemant in manner & form following.
I give and bequeth unto my loving sons David Russell and Abraham Russell the plantation which I bought of Joseph Lowell lying on Newport Sound and adjacent to Cedar Point tract with all the land, unto the the same belonging one tract or plantation lying on Goose Creek. a branch of the sound, and the same that Henry Hatsoll lately lived on with all the land unto the same belonging unto them the said David and Abraham and their heirs and assignees forever.
I ordain that and hereby impower my executor hereafter named to move and take of my dwelling house of the plantation and on which I now live and then to dispose of said plantation and land belonging to the same to the best advantage and make and also to sale and make over the land which Henry Hatsoll's to said Hatsoll of the Bro of sale to whoever doth buy or purchase the land.
I bequeath unto my loving daughters Rebokah Russell, Sarah Russell and Abigail Russell two mares to wit a black one and a sorrol one.
I give and bequeth unto my loving daughter Ann Sophia Russell one black mare branded with a cross and one year old mare colt.
I order my executor to set apart ten pound proclamation money to hire some woman of learning to teach at home my children their books and I further order that my two sons David and Abraham may, by my Executor, be bound out apprenticed to the house joynior, and carpenter trade and some reasonable degree of learning given them by their master.
I Give and bequeth the remaining part of my estate unto my loving daughters Ann Sophia Russell, Rebekah Russell, Sarah Russell and Abigail Russell and their heirs forever. But Lend and allow the use of it to my loving wife Ann Russell to enable her to bring up my Children.
I appoint my friend Mr. Geo. Read and Geo. Mackane executors and my loving wife executrix of this my last will and testement, hereby revoking and making null and void all wills and testements here-to-fore by me made and this only to be my Will and Testement.

Lancaster Lovett in open court made oath that he saw Habakkuk Russel sign and seal the written testement as his last will and testement and that Henry Hatchel & Samuel Jordan were present and Geo. McKean & George Read Ex. Appointed herein Qualified as the Law Directs.

This Day Came Ann Russell before me one of His County Majesties Justices for the County Afsd and made oath on the Holy Evangelis of All Mighty God to Render A True and Just Account of all the good, Chattels and Estate of her late Husband Habakkuk Russell as Shall Come to Her Hands and a true of return as the Law directs
